MANILA, Philippines – Has a loved one ever brought you a snack while you were busy working or studying? Have you ever found yourself starting to enjoy cooking for your loved ones, going on grocery runs with them, or helping them fold their laundry, all without being asked?
These are all examples of acts of service, which is 67% of adult Filipinos’ top love language, according to a national Social Weather Survey from December 12 to 18, 2024 that surveyed 2,160 respondents. For many Filipinos, actions clearly speak louder than words.
Filipinos also like to express their love through quality time and words of affirmation, which each registered 51%. Gift-giving came in fourth at 33%, while, interestingly, physical touch came in last at 29%.
What do Filipinos want to receive for Valentine’s Day?
The survey also asked adult Filipinos what they want to receive for Valentine’s Day, and love and companionship came out on top for both men (20%) and women (17%).
Any gift from the heart (9%) came in second on Filipino men’s Valentine’s Day wish lists, followed by flowers (8%). Money and apparel came in last at 6% each.

It’s the opposite for women, whose second most sought after Valentine’s Day gift is money (15%). This is followed by flowers (8%). Meanwhile, any gift from the heart and a good family relationship, the bottom two gifts, are tied at 8%.
Are Filipinos satisfied with their love lives?
In their love lives in general, though, only 46% of the surveyed Filipinos said they were “very happy.” This is a significant drop from last year’s results, which showed that 58% of Filipinos were very happy with their love lives.
36% of the 2,160 respondents, meanwhile, said they could be happier, while 18% said they have no love life. There was also a notable decrease in the total number of men who said they were very happy with their love lives, going down from 61% in the 2023 survey to just 47% in the December 2024 survey.
The total number of “very happy” women when it comes to their love lives went from 55% to 46%.

This survey was conducted face-to-face, with 1,080 respondents hailing from Luzon outside Metro Manila. Meanwhile, there were 360 respondents each from Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao. – Rappler.com
