MANILA, Philippines – In 2024, the number of cybercrime and scam complaints in the Philippines tripled, compared to figures the year before. The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), a relatively new agency established under the Department of Information and Communications Technology, is tasked with immediately assisting scam victims.

Undersecretary Alexander Ramos, chief of the CICC, sits down for an interview with Rappler head of community Pia Ranada about the most common scams victimizing Filipinos today. One-time-pin (OTP) scams, illegal recruitment scams, love scams – name it, they’re looking into it.

The interview tackles patterns in scam tactics, practical tips for both new victims and repeat victims, the impact of the SIM registration law, and how to report scams and other cybercrime to authorities.

If you’ve been scammed before, or know someone who has, if you want to protect yourself and your loved ones from manipulation, watch this interview on February 21 at 7 pm.

Be The Good is Rappler’s Community show about advocacies, campaigns, and people on a mission.
