MANILA, Philippines – Erica de Luna claimed a piece of history as the first player to record a UAAP quadruple-double, powering La Salle Zobel to a 114-24 demolition of Ateneo in the Season 87 girls’ basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Sunday, March 2.

The first player to achieve the feat across all five UAAP divisions, De Luna churned out 32 points, 16 rebounds, 12 steals, and 11 assists as the Junior Lady Archers wrapped up their campaign in style and finished a 2-4 record.

“This is a confidence booster heading into my collegiate career. Even though we had limited preparation time, I’m proud of my stats and the fact that we ended the season with a win on a high note,” said De Luna, a Grade 12 student.

Before De Luna, the last known quadruple-double at the amateur level was accomplished by Joshua Saret, who dominated for Jose Rizal University with 89 points, 13 steals, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in a 171-43 drubbing of Angeles University Foundation in the NCAA Season 86 juniors basketball tournament on July 23, 2009.

“She is very consistent,” La Salle Zobel assistant coach Maan Moreno said of De Luna. “I cannot ask anything more from her. I’m very proud of her maturity, not just her stats. She is hotheaded at times, but because of the UAAP, she matured in that area.”

The Junior Lady Archers raced to a 31-6 lead and cruised the rest of the way en route to the 90-point blowout.

It was not just De Luna who delivered for La Salle Zobel.

Princess Cordero chalked up 25 points, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 2 rebounds, Naima Navarro added a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Alexandra Dominguez chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

Sofia Martinez also made her presence felt, putting up 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block.

The Blue Eagles ended the tournament without a single win as they dropped all their six games, with the team yet to win in girls’ basketball action after also finishing with a 0-6 card in the inaugural staging in Season 82 in 2019.

Jian Exconde and Cesca Pangilinan each scored 6 points for Ateneo, while Matia Molina added 4 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. – Rappler.com
