MANILA, Philippines – Carl Tamayo got the better of high school teammate Kevin Quiambao in their first Korean Basketball League encounter.

Tamayo produced 12 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds to help the Changwon LG Sakers score a 91-79 home win over the Goyang Sono Skygunners on Sunday, March 9.

It was the second consecutive win for Changwon, which raised its record to 27-16 and claimed solo second in the standings.

Quiambao put up better numbers than his Gilas Pilipinas teammate, churning out 15 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, but the Skygunners’ comeback fizzled out in the fourth quarter.

Down by as many as 16 points in the first half, Goyang got within 68-73 going into the final period only to run out of gas.

Egyptian star Assem Marei dominated for the Sakers with 29 points, 23 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals, while Yu Ki-sang fired 19 points.

Former US NCAA star DJ Burns tallied 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Skygunners, who absorbed their third straight loss and fell to 14-29 to remain at ninth place in the 10-team league.

Meanwhile, Juan Gomez de Liaño and the Seoul SK Knights gave SJ Belangel and the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus an 89-69 beating earlier in the day.

Gomez de Liaño chimed in 3 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal in just five minutes of action for the league-leading Knights, who improved to 36-8.

Belangel had 4 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal in the loss that dropped fifth-placed Daegu to 22-21. – Rappler.com
