MANILA, Philippines – Two people died and several were injured on Sunday, May 4, after an SUV crashed into the departure area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The Philippine Red Cross said that at approximately 8:55 am, a black SUV crashed through the outer railing at the departure area and into the walkway near the entrance, ramming into one of the doors.
“The incident tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals — a male adult and a 4-year-old girl,” it added. Four others were injured.
The New NAIA Infra Corporation, which oversees the airport’s operations, said injured individuals were being treated.
NNIC president Ramon Ang committed to “providing immediate assistance” in the wake of the accident. The NNIC, in a new Facebook post, wrote that Ang “will personally shoulder the medical expenses of the four individuals who were injured and provide financial assistance to the families of the two who died in the incident.”
“This is a very tragic incident. Our priority now is to make sure the victims and their families receive the support and care they need,” Ang said.

NNIC earlier said the area had “been secured, and access is now limited to authorized personnel from New NAIA Infra Corp., the Philippine National Police, and MIAA Security, who are currently conducting a full investigation.”
The driver, meanwhile, is in police custody.
