BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The Panagbenga Festival weekend kicks off with its annual Street Dance parade where hundreds of students dance their way to the Melvin Jones Football Field. This year’s theme is “Blossoms Beyond Boundaries” and incidentally, coincides with the Baguio Country Club’s 120th anniversary.
The performances follow the same route as the festival’s previous iteration which begins at Panagbenga Park in South Drive, moves towards Session Road and then to Magsaysay Avenue, down Harrison Road, Jose Abad Santos Drive, Lake Drive until it reaches the Melvin Jones Football Field where there will be a competition to determine which school has the best dance routine.
The Grand Street Dance Parade’s festival dance competition also includes seven participating groups from different provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region and the Ilocos Region. The competition is two pronged and performers are evaluated based on their executions during the February 1 opening street dance performance and the field demonstration at the Melvin Jones Field on Saturday, February 22.
